Morning reading…

We are off to London for two social adventures.

22.34    The first social adventure was a garden party organized by a young German resident of the Minx’s apartment buildings, converted from industrial use some fifteen years ago. Perhaps sixty people, from a wide variety of backgrounds, mingling over buffet lunch. Relaxed and enjoyable, meeting neighbours who we’d never ordinarily meet.

An important call to the US at 17.00.

Leaving at 17.30 for Hampstead and a small gathering in support of Professor Gary Marcus (Can science turn a psychologist into Jimi Hendrix) whose book Guitar Zero is about to be released in the UK. I took the opportunity to ask Professor Gary some questions of his speciality which hold interest for me; and commented on the final paragraph in his book, which I felt as the most powerful in it: Uncle David struggles, struggles with what it means to be a Jew, this a song for Prof Gary’s Uncle in his last few weeks in this life. For me, music is the best language to express what it means to be a human being, of whatever background, and this Prof Gary had clearly found.

A number of those present, at this relaxed, homely and hospitable do, were academics, scientific researchers, psychoanalysts, the politically involved, and one leading English guitarist. Conversation was at a level I rarely meet and I felt we were privileged to be invited.

Prof Gary is on BBC Radio Four tomorrow morning, or 03.45 NYC body time. Toyah recommended he take his guitar and plays it in the interview.

Arriving home at 22.21.
